Tomorrow is the first day of winter and the shortest day of the month. Bring on the longer daylight hours, I'm ready for it! Really I don't mind it getting dark earlier, the thing that I do mind is having to drive home from work in the dark, especially in winter weather.
I love my Belsnickles. Their old-world vintage-y look is my favorite type of "Santa Claus."
I got up an hour early this morning and already have 2 loads of laundry going. I figure that if I'm awake why not start the day - "burning daylight" is definitely something I don't do regularly. My MIL is stopping by to pick up cookies tonight so I'm trying to get a few things done this am before heading in to work.
Remember that snow I was wishing for? Well it looks like we may get a little bit on Friday, but it won't be around for long - the temps are supposed to go back up into the high 40's by Monday. Just 3 more days of work - YEAH! We close between Christmas and New Year's and I can't wait!
I'm headed to the market tomorrow to get our turkey, it's frozen and I'll have to defrost it. We bought the ham last week, I decided to do both for Christmas dinner this year. I was torn between the ham or baked ziti. The ham won out, but I think that the baked ziti will make an appearance anyway at some point next week, that or homemade ravioli - yumm.
I must run (I've got 2 cookie trays to deliver on my way to work), but wanted to ask you...
"What's on you Christmas menus this year?"

Belsnickles! Is that what they are called? They are the most precious!
:-)
Belsnickles? I've never heard that term before - like it!
You're so organized and you've been baking and making up a storm! I thought of you last week, Leann, when a friend & I got together to make & bake for gifts. Then I baked enough Molasses Crinkles for 80 little baggies for my husband to take to a Mission last night when he went to help prepare & serve the dinner. Still have one more batch of the dough, but no baking today - just errands.
As for Christmas Day Dinner, we usually have a rib roast, but this year I'll also have ham since we have some non-beef eaters coming. Then we'll be set for New Year's Day - ham with black-eyed peas!
Happy to hear you have the week off. Christmas Blessings! Jane
If it is snow you want. Come my way. We are in a blizzard evening for this afternoon/evening. 10 inches of snow and 40 mph winds. Have a Christmas party to go to tonight but I am guessing we will be staying home. White Christmas for us this year. More snow predicted for Christmas day.
We did our family Christmas last weekend, so it is Lasagna at friends for us.
We're having family for Christmas Eve and I'm making ham this year. We will have Christmas breakfast with our daughter and family. What an interesting name!! Merry Christmas.

Leann, I'm with you on the longer days. I hate driving at night and try to avoid it as much as I can. Your menu sounds wonderful. Christmas Eve for us is a seafood feast, Christmas Day is manicotti & roast turkey, and ham for New Year's. Merry Christmas! xo
What beautiful decor!
They are sweet little santas and the name is great, Belsnickles I have never hear it before.
Christmas menue (it's going to be near 100f about 36c) so my son is going to the fish market on Christmas eve and getting prawns, oysters and a lobster and it all be cold food, this year (we are giving up on a hot dinner) lots of salad and ice cream.
Merle ........
I am keeping Christmas dinner simple this year. Not a lot of trimmings and something that we can clean up quickly. I will have inhouse guests for a few days after Christmas so need to store up some energy for them! I like your Santas! Didn't know they were called that! I hope you get some SNOW !!
Beautiful! We plan to do our grocery shopping for next week on Saturday. Nothing really fancy. Too many pickys coming to visit. If it was just us, we'd go all out, but we draw the line when a sister in law says, "How can shave this off my tongue?" seriously. She can have turkey. We'll have the cranberry risotto next weekend by ourselves!
Hi Leann...You always bake and cook so much for the holidays. Your family is so lucky. Guess I do my fair share, too.
I'm going to do spiral ham...already got it at a good price.
Trying a new hot, baked dip that sounds easy...2 cups of chopped sweet onions, 2 cups of mayonnaise and 2 cups of shredded swiss cheese. Bake 20 to 30 minutes at 350 and serve with crackers, or tortilla chips, or carrots and celery sticks. Sounds good to me!

This is a delightful post, Leann! I love getting up earlier and getting some stuff out of the way before the day "starts".
Belsnickles are wonderful, although I have none.
We will have ham this year, a pineapple side dish, corn casserole, green beans, sweet potato casserole, bread. And desserts!
Lots of finger food and a ham... I refuse to do a turkey and another sit-down meal. So it's finger foods, snacks, fruit, celery, chips, cheeses...
Your Santas definitely have that Old World look and that wise old man look, too. Very neat.
You're going to be in heaven with an entire week off from work. Way cool!
A Belsnickle...I have never heard that term before but I sure love the one you showed. He has a lot of character.
It is 0200 Thursday morning and our winds are 30-40 mph and it is snowing heavy, little flakes of snow. We are going to our sons house in Kansas for Christmas...we may not be able to get there.
Thanks for stopping by to see me.
hugs
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Love your Belsnickles. I have heard that term, but I oft forget it. Thanks for the reminder!
